Sixteen Injured In Two-vehicle Crash In West Palm Beach

Sixteen people were recently injured in an overnight accident on Okeechobee Boulevard near Congress Avenue, sending several to area hospitals with traumatic injuries. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported but some may have a long road to recovery ahead of them.

The crash occurred around 1 am when a van carrying 14 passengers was cut off by a pickup truck making a u-turn. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

Eight of the crash victims were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Five were transported to West Palm Hospital and three to Good Samaritan Hospital. All victims are reported to be in stable condition or have been released.

Who can be held liable in auto accidents?

Under the law, all drivers have a responsibility to drive safely and refrain from putting other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists in harm’s way. Often times, authorities investigating the cause of the accident will make a legal determination of who was at-fault in the accident.

Under Florida’s no-fault car insurance laws, the victim’s own auto insurance covers the cost of medical treatment and pain and suffering. The law requires drivers carry a minimum of $10,000 worth of personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 in property damage liability (PDL).

Can I sue the other driver in an accident?

Injured Florida auto accident victims may only file lawsuits against drivers in cases where they incurred a permanent injury or physical scars. Individuals interested in pursuing legal action against at-fault drivers should strongly consider speaking to an experience West Palm Beach auto accident lawyer about their case.

Retaining an experienced auto accident lawyer can help victims collect witness testimony, medical records attesting to a permanent injury, and go toe-to-toe with wrongdoers in court.
